Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Kibale National Park
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by your safari guide who will brief you on the safari itinerary. From there, you’ll embark on a scenic 5-6 hour drive to Kibale National Park, a famous park known for its incredible primate population.
Kibale is home to over 13 species of primates, including the chimpanzees, which you will track the following day. The park is located in western Uganda, with dense tropical rainforest and a diverse ecosystem, making it one of the best places in Africa for primate watching.
You will check into your lodge near Kibale National Park, where you can enjoy a leisurely evening, relax, and have a delicious dinner.
Overnight: Kibale Safari Lodge or a similar accommodation
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale National Park
After breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing by the rangers before embarking on your chimpanzee tracking adventure. Kibale offers one of the most rewarding chimpanzee experiences in Africa, and the chances of seeing chimpanzees are high.
As you hike through the lush rainforest, your guide will help you spot various species of birds, butterflies, and other wildlife. Once you find a troop of chimpanzees, you’ll be able to observe them up close as they go about their daily activities—feeding, playing, grooming, and interacting. Chimpanzees are highly intelligent and their behavior is fascinating to watch.
The trek can last from 1 to 4 hours depending on the location of the chimpanzees. After the chimpanzee tracking, you can enjoy a picnic lunch in the park or return to your lodge for a meal.
In the afternoon, you may opt to take a guided nature walk or visit the nearby Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a great spot for birdwatching and experiencing local culture.
Overnight: Kibale Safari Lodge or a similar accommodation
Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Gorilla Trekking)
After breakfast, you’ll depart Kibale National Park for a scenic 4-5 hour drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is home to the endangered mountain gorillas. The park is located in southwestern Uganda, near the borders with Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
On arrival, you will check in at your lodge, which is nestled in the heart of the park’s lush forest. This evening, you will have the opportunity to prepare for your gorilla trekking experience the following day, where you will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to observe these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.
Overnight: Buhoma Lodge or a similar accommodation
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
The day of gorilla trekking is the highlight of your safari. After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for a briefing by the rangers. During the briefing, you’ll be divided into groups (usually of 8 people) and assigned to a specific gorilla family to track.
The trek through the dense forest can be challenging, but the rewards are well worth it. The gorilla families in Bwindi are habituated to humans, so you’ll have the chance to come within meters of these powerful creatures. Whether you’re observing a silverback gorilla, young ones playing, or gorillas feeding and interacting, this experience is unforgettable.
Gorilla trekking typically lasts between 3 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family. After the trek, you’ll have time to rest and reflect on the experience.
In the evening, you can take part in a cultural experience with the local Batwa people, who have lived in the forest for centuries.
Overnight: Buhoma Lodge or a similar accommodation
Day 5: Queen Elizabeth National Park – Game Drives and Departure

On the final day of your safari, you will transfer from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to Queen Elizabeth National Park, which takes approximately 3-4 hours by road. Queen Elizabeth is one of Uganda’s most famous parks, known for its rich biodiversity, including the famous tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha sector.
Upon arrival, you’ll go on an afternoon game drive to spot a variety of wildlife including elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, antelopes, and a variety of bird species. The park is also home to a number of predators, including lions, leopards, and hyenas, making for a diverse and thrilling safari experience.
You may also take a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake George and Lake Edward, offering close-up views of hippos, crocodiles, and a wide variety of birds.
